It's time. It's time to blitz the beauty items I have accumulated and narrow down my current 17 body creams to maybes just the handful I do like! I'm tired of being so fickle, I'm tired of having love affairs with products where I'll open one, think it's amazing, fancy it like mad, use it 3 times then toss it aside like it never meant a thing to me! Having commitment issues with products and constantly searching for the 'one' has left me drained and disheartened and it's gotta change. I need to embrace a product for what it is, get to know it, find out what it's about and see if we can be in each other's lives for the long haul!!
To help give me focus on using up my products I've had a sort out. Kind of. I've gathered all my open bath/shower products and put some of them in this chest in my bathroom:
The other open items I've put into my drawers and when I've used the items in the chest, the idea is I'll do a wee rotation. During this task I'm not going to open anything new and hopefully won't buy anything new either otherwise it defeats the object!
I think there are going to be major pluses for doing this task. In particular when talking about moisturisers or products which don't have a long shelf life; it makes sense to use them when you still can otherwise they meet the bin and you've wasted money.
Also when you're dipping into just the one product at a time, I think you can rediscover it and thoroughly review it. Using a specific product over a period of time allows you to see how it really performs for you. Therefore helping your decision when it comes to repurchasing.
The other big factor into doing something like this and using up products you have means you're not buying anything new (which is great if you're partaking in the Spending Ban) getting through your stash is a great way to find out what works for you and what doesn't. I think it's also healthy (mentally) to have a bit of a sort out and clear the unwanted items from your life.
So this is the task I've set myself, 'Blitz the Beauty Items'. As I use products up I'll post about them using this TAG and hopefully I'll get there! The hardest bit will be refraining from opening up new stuff cos if I'm in one of those moods the only thing that I find comfort in is opening a new bottle of bubble bath, or smothering myself in a new body oil. It's always gotta be new with me though. Well... not until this stash is dealt with anyway!
Wish me luck!! (And apologies for this uber long post!)

I have this exact problem. About a year ago I did 'Project Bathroom' where I tried to use up all my lotions and potions instead of buying more. I did well but didnt complete it. I need to do something similar again this year because the amount I own has krept up again!

i know exactly what u mean! it's the rebel inside hehe! xx
DeleteI think this is such a good idea! I just wish there was enough room in my bathroom to keep all my goodies! I keep forgetting about them as they're in my room and then think I've ran out when my bathroom is empty!! xxx
ReplyDeletei think as long as they're in one place that's a good start so u can see everything xx
DeleteI need to do this, I have draws and boxes full of lotions and potions which need giving away or throwing out. I'm a sucker for a BOGOF or 3 for 2 deal so end up with about 20 of the same product!
