Artsy Wednesday: Cling Film Mani

Saran wrap/cling film whatever you want to call it; essentially it's a bit of plastic rolled up and used to smudge the top layer of polish so your nails look a lil something like this:

This week is the reason why I joined Artsy Wednesday!  I had NEVER heard of this mani or nail art effect before and it was soooo simple and effective I've fallen in love with it... if you can fall in love with a nail art technique that is ;P

The 'how to' bit:

Paint the base colour, I used 'No Place Like Chrome' by Essie.

Once it's dried, paint your 'top' colour, I used 'First Class' by Leighton Denny.

When the top layer is still tacky (if wet I found it took off more polish so it depends how much of the base you want to show through) I put a loosley scrunched up ball of cling film on my nail then removed it.  And with the removal comes some of the top layer of polish leaving an almost marbled effect:

My pics aren't the best this week as I was a poorly bunny wrapped up in my furry brown blanket on the sofa with a hot lemon and honey whilst doing this!  I used a tray and some kitchen roll to capture the used 'cling film' balls!  It can get a lil messy!  So if you're trying this I'd say prep your working area for sure.

I wasn't expecting to be as impressed with this technique as I was but I think the colour combo massively helped.  I used a silver base and a blue with a light silver holo shot through it so together they complimented each other perfectly.

The one final thing I have to say on this mani is that I think that this is what crackle should look like!  I'm not a huge crackle fan (does anyone genuinely heart it?)  If crackle done this I'd buy a whole bunch of them as I've found this weeks mani soooo wearable... I could have switched the colours around on a ring finger too for added oomph... I think I'll try and do this next time!

  2. I've never heard of this either, I want to give it a try now. It gives it like a cool steel effect or something (though I guess that also depends on the colors you use).

  8. Ohhh, maybe I should have googled how to do a cling wrap mani. I just assumed you dipped the cling wrap in polish and then sponged it on. :P Thanks for the tutorial, yours looks great! :)
