Cleaning Makeup Brushes

It is a task that must be done even though it's mundane and messy.  Girls have all the fun of the fair don't they?  Cleaning makeup brushes is that one thing I always try and put off but once done it's sooo satisfying!!

Here is a snap of the mucky water post wash:

And the mess it leaves in the sink:

But the uber clean brushes are always a win:

I use my cleanser to clean my brushes; Purity by Philosophy.  I put a small amount in the palm of my hand then swirl the brush head into it; rinse and repeat until the water coming out of the brush is clear.

I don't use fancy pants brush cleaning techniques; I have decent makeup brushes which include Bare Minerals, Smashbox, Bobbi Brown and M.A.C so in my opinion the quality of the brush allows to keep cleaning simple :)

How do you clean your makeup brushes?  Do you have any special tips for cleaning them?

  1. Mine is similar to yours - I use baby shampoo with a drop of tea tree oil, but once again it's the tried and trusted swirl around in palm of hand technique! Just did it yesterday, couldn't believe the filth that came off them! Yuk! x

  2. It's always such a mission cleaning all your make-up brushes but worth it in the end, helps to keep bacteria at bay and helps for better skin!

  4. I need to clean them more often than I do! I usually use shampoo when I do though!
